Tomato Breeder

       For our breeding team tomato, which is responsible for the development of new tomato varieties, we are looking for a new breeder in order to be able to realise our growth and ideas in the future. This vacancy of tomato breeder is at our breeding station in Antalya -Turkey.

JOB DESCRIPTION

       You are part of a specialist team who work on the tomato-breeding programme. The work is varied and is carried out in the field, glasshouse and office. This function makes you co-responsible for the development of new tomato varieties for several international markets. You manage and guide the work on generating varieties, creation and selecting the parental lines and testing the trial hybrids. You also organise and plan the breeding activities and make improvements where necessary.

       Apart from working in your own team, you also work closely with research departments, such as phytopathology and molecular biology. Other departments you collaborate intensively with are crop maintenance, production and commerce.

       We are looking for a candidate who has completed a study as Agricultural Engineer at university level with a good understanding of plant breeding and genetics, done a MSc or a PhD. Preferably you participated in an (Erasmus) exchange programme or even have already some experience in practical plant breeding. You know how to set about your work and are passionate about the breeding profession. You want to be a practical breeder with a good view of the total breeding programme and processes. You work very well independently in own area but also enjoy working and sharing as part of a team. You communicate easily and make decisions in good consultation. Working accurately and in a structured way is an added requirement. You are fluent in the English and preferably also the Turkish language, you have a current, clean driving licence and occasional travelling is no problem for you.
